Abbey Lodge was founded in 1863 and presently has some 60 members living in and around
Abingdon, some in Didcot, some in Oxford, for example.
The Lodge meets eight times a year in the Council Chambers, Abingdon, during a season
which runs from October to May. Each meeting is followed by a Festive Board where brethren
are able to enjoy good food and excellent conversation in a convivial atmosphere.
A regular newsletter is circulated to Brethren each month with news and a diary of activities, and each year we have a Ladies' Festival, a Guests' Evening and a Lodge barbeque.
Every other year there is a visit to or from Opgang Lodge of Hilversum, under the Grand Orient of Holland. The most recent visit was May 2004 when ten Dutch brethren and their wives visited us.

| There is a Lodge of Instruction attached to Abbey Lodge which meets twice a month (a
total of fourteen times) during the season. Brethren are instructed here in the proper
forms of ritual to be followed in the various ceremonies that comprise Lodge meetings.
This is the only such Lodge in the Masonic Province of Berkshire. Abbey Lodge supports a number of local non-Masonic charities and also contributes to national Masonic charity funds which support both Masonic and non-Masonic charitable causes. Freemasonry in Berkshire
Abbey Lodge is part of the Masonic Province of Berkshire, from before the county
boundaries were redrawn. Geographically of course, we are in Oxfordshire.
